Out of Fernet-Branca? Bart suggests a substitute from the bottles you already own, then still pours the drink. On this page you only get the general answer.
About the Fanciulli
The Fanciulli is a classic cocktail dating back to around 1910 and is named after Francesco Fanciulli, a former director of the United States Marine Band. As a riff on the Manhattan, it combines whiskey, sweet vermouth, and Fernet-Branca, creating a bold and aromatic drink with a minty bitterness.
The addition of Fernet-Branca, a menthol-forward Italian amaro, sets the Fanciulli apart from a traditional Manhattan. This ingredient adds a cooling effect and a strong aromatic profile, transforming the classic spirit-sweet-bitter combination into a unique and memorable cocktail. Perfect with either bourbon or rye, the Fanciulli balances sweetness, spice, and minty complexity, making it a standout among Manhattan variations.
